Age of Empires 4: What we know so far

Microsoft launched the Definitive Edition of classic real time strategy (RTS) game Age of Empires 3 (AoE3) on October 15 this year. It marked the completion of the Definitive Edition trilogy of Age of Empires games which consists of all the Definitive Editions of all the three main Age of Empires titles. Now, with all three remastered versions having been launched, Microsoft is looking to continue the Age of Empires franchise with Age of Empires 4. When Age of Empires 4 launches, it is going to be big. Why? Because there has been a dearth of RTS games in recent years. The genre has almost dried out of quality titles and AoE 4 seems to be one of the best bets that may help revive it.
Age of Empires 4 was confirmed by Microsoft during the Xbox X019 event held in London last year. A gameplay trailer was also launched then. So, what new things would the game offer? Here is a rundown on all things confirmed yet for Age of Empires 4:
The Company of Heroes link
Age of Empires 4 (AoE4) is being developed by Relic Entertainment, the developers of Company of Heroes, the highest-rated RTS yet, in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios.
New civilisations
New civilizations are expected to be added to the game. The game trailer showed the Mongol hordes besieging an English citadel, which means the Mongols are confirmed as a playable civilization for now, apart from the English.
Fewer civilisations

AoE4 would have fewer civilisations than AoE2, claims a report by PCGamesN. The report is based on a statement given by creative director Adam Isgreen in an interview with PCGamesN. When asked about the number of civilisations in the upcoming game, he reportedly said: “You can expect to see fewer than the 13 that shipped with Age of Empires II, as we’re aiming for more uniqueness with each civilisation rather than quantity.”
Manning the walls would be possible
In Age of Empires 4, manning the walls would be possible and as such, you could station your troops with the ranged attack on the battlements to fire down on the enemy, something which was not possible in AoE3
Siege weaponry
The game has added siege weaponry and would allow you to destroy enemy walls with much ease as the trailer showed the use of trebuchets. AoE3, on the other hand, had big-sized cannons like Li’l Bombards at the most that had to be placed quite near to the walls to damage them.
Outposts
AoE 4 would have the option of building the outposts, like AoE 3.
Microtransactions won’t be there
In an interview with PCGamesN, the creative director of the game denied the possibility of microtransactions in the game.
DLCs and expansion packs are a go
In the same interview, he said: “DLC, expansions – all of that is things that we’re going to be exploring for Age 4.”
Graphics overhaul
It goes without saying and it is evident from the trailer also that the game would come with a graphics overhaul.
No confirmed launch date
The game is expected to be launched on PC and consoles with no confirmation of the launch date as of now. Source: https://bangalorenewstoday.com
